Job Opening: Egyptian Art and Architecture

The Department of Near Eastern Languages & Cultures at the University of California, Los Angeles announces a tenure-track position for an assistant professor in the Art and Architecture of Ancient Egypt, to be filled effective July 1, 2008. Candidates will be expected to have a full Egyptological background and to teach a broad spectrum of undergraduate and graduate courses. Undergraduate courses in ancient Egyptian art and architecture, Middle Egyptian, Egyptian Civilization and graduate courses in epigraphy, and history and analysis of art and architecture are expected to be part of the teaching load.  In addition to a Ph.D. degree, experience in museum collections, or on archaeological projects with a focus on art historical, architectural or epigraphic studies are desired. Applicants must show excellence in research and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in research centers and projects at UCLA including the Cotsen Institute of Archaeology (www.sscnet.ucla.edu/ioa) and the UCLA web-based Encyclopedia of Egyptology (www.uee.ucla.edu).
